YMCA Golf Classic Set to Tee Off on July 10

Each July, the South Shore YMCA holds its annual golf tournament, at the glorious height of summer for our region. And each year, nearly two hundred and fifty golfers gather at Pine Hills Golf Club in Plymouth and collectively raise funds in support of the Y’s life-changing programs and services.

In 2018, the funds raised by the golf tournament supported one of the South Shore YMCA’s seven major causes: Medical Wellness and the Partnership Program. This year, proceeds from the tournament will benefit the South Shore YMCA’s newest initiative: it’s Staystrong cancer support program.

Staystrong is the South Shore YMCA’s free, year-long support program for cancer patients, survivors and families. The YMCA understands the overwhelming challenges families face when dealing with a cancer diagnosis. As a trusted community leader in health and well-being, the Y is offering Staystrong to make a dramatic impact to improve lives in our community. Anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer and has undergone cancer treatment within the past 12 months, plus their household family members and caregiver are encouraged to participate. And thanks to the generous support of donors like those who participate in this year’s Golf Classic, the Staystrong program is offered at no cost to participants.

The Medical Wellness programs offered by the Y run the gamut from childhood obesity prevention to cancer survivorship. They are run at numerous facilities across the South Shore and invite anybody who is in need of such support. Typically, participants have run out of options with medical insurance and are looking for places to turn find new ways to combat chronic diseases, to recover after life-changing situations, or are simply trying to enhance their own health. Or perhaps their doctors have referred them to the programs. No matter how they arrive, the Y welcomes them and helps them find their pathway to a better life.

The Y’s annual Golf Classic is always a fun opportunity to support notable causes, and this year will be no different. At Pinehills, the Y will welcome golfers with a cookout lunch, and they’ll be able to participate in fun contests, raffles, silent and live auction items throughout the day. The Y will also be bringing back a fun twist on the 10th: whack-a-quack. Golfers will be challenged to step up to the tee and see just how far they can drive a rubber duck. Who says you can’t have fun while raising funds for a worthy cause?
